A Sub Two Hour Marathon

I run. So I know what it takes. And what happened in London is hard to explain if you have not been there.
A 1:59:30 marathon. Official. The first one ever. That is 26.2 miles at about 4:34 a mile. No break. No fade. Just pace and will.
It did not stop there. Second place broke two hours too. Third place missed it by half a minute. The barrier did not bend. It moved.
If you run, you know the late miles. Eighteen. Twenty. Twenty-two. That is where it comes apart. Now picture it not coming apart. That is the difference.
People had done it before, but never in a real race. Kipchoge went under two hours in 2019, in a staged event with a wall of pacers. It did not count for the record. This one did. That is the line that got crossed in London. Not a demonstration. A race.
The shoes were part of it. Adidas built something new, a shoe that weighs almost nothing. The runners proved it mattered. That is how change happens. Not talk. Results.
I never thought I would see a sub-two-hour marathon. I watched it happen. What looks impossible now will not stay that way.
Back to training.
